Government Targets for Renewables

In March 2002 Brian Wilson, Energy Minister, launched the Renewables Obligation and produced a list of the English regions, plus Scotland and Wales, with the percentage of the RO allocated to each Region/Administration. Note that this was intended to cover all types of "renewable energy" as defined by the Government. In theory it was left the Regions/Administrations to break this down into the different categories (wind, hydro, biomass etc). In practice the Government has stated in its Consultation Document for Planning Policy Statement PPS22   that as and when a target is reach it must be increased.
